Handmade quality, crafted in the USA.
This bag combines organic cotton with beeswax, providing a natural, breathable environment. It moderates moisture, keeping your bread crusty and crumb moist longer.
Made from 100% organic cotton and impregnated with beeswax, jojoba oil, and natural ingredients. Each bag is handmade in the USA, ensuring craftsmanship and quality.
Use the bag by folding or tying it shut, rinsing with cold water only. Avoid hot water and heat to maintain the wax coating. It fits a standard bakery loaf and should be re-waxed twice a year.
Fast shipping with reliable support and straightforward return policies. Our goal is to ensure your satisfaction with timely deliveries and clear communication.

Bakers worked this out long before plastic
A hive runs on one rule: the honey has to stay pure. So bees build wax to seal it — a soft, breathable barrier that holds moisture steady and keeps spoilage out, without shutting the comb off from the air entirely.
Bakers borrowed that long before anyone had a plastic bag. A loaf was wrapped in waxed cloth and set on the side, and the wax did the same job it does in the hive: it slowed the exchange of moisture rather than stopping it. Crust stayed crisp instead of going soft. The crumb stayed closed instead of drying to a brick. Then cling film arrived, solved the wrong half of the problem, and the method was quietly dropped.
That is what we make. Heavyweight cotton waxed all the way through, not misted with a coating that wears off in a month. It will not stop your bread going stale — nothing on a worktop will, that happens inside the loaf. What it does is stop the bread being ruined on the way there: no sweating, no sogging, no concrete by Wednesday.
What Nobody Told Me About Stale Bread
This started with a bin. I bake at the weekend, two loaves at a time, and for years I threw away most of the second one. Hard by Tuesday, blue by Thursday, and the half I did eat was only ever good as toast.
So I bought the things you buy. A bread bin, which turned out to be a warm dark box that grew mould faster than the worktop did. Linen, which produced something closer to masonry. Cling film, which gave me a soggy crust and mould anyway. The freezer worked, and I resented it — a drawer full of loaves I had to plan a day ahead to eat. Eventually I stopped trying and just accepted the waste.
What I had wrong was the enemy. Bread does not go hard because it dries out; it hardens from the inside as the starch recrystallises, and that happens fastest at cold-but-not-frozen temperatures. Which means the fridge, the obvious fix, was speeding up the exact thing I was fighting. Every container I had bought was aimed at the wrong clock. The one thing any of them could actually control was moisture moving in and out — and plastic got that badly wrong in one direction, linen in the other.
Wax-coated cotton is the setting in between. The weave lets vapour move, the wax slows it down, and the loaf still gets older — it just stops getting ruined on the way there. Old-but-good gets eaten. Soggy or solid gets binned. That is the whole claim, and it is the only one I will make. The wax does the work, so the wax is what wears out, which is why we sell the bar to redo it rather than pretending the bag lasts forever.

"Why Don’t You Just Freeze It?"
The honest answer, including the part that isn’t in our favour.
The Freezer

- Ice crystals rupture the crumb — water expands as it freezes and tears the starch structure it sits in
- It picks up the freezer — bread is porous and takes on whatever else is stored in there
- Thawing restarts the clock fast — freezing pauses staling, thawing speeds it back up
- You have to plan a day ahead — no slice without a wait, which is why the drawer fills up
- Toasting hides it, it doesn’t fix it — a soft open crumb never really comes back
Waxed Cotton

- Moisture moves slowly, not never — the weave lets vapour out, the wax slows it down
- Nothing freezes, so nothing tears — the crumb you cut into is the crumb you baked
- Ready when you are — cut a slice now, no thawing and no planning
- Only cotton and wax touch it — no plastic taste, no freezer taste, nothing added to the loaf
- It slows the ruin, not the staling — nothing on a worktop stops staling. Only the freezer does, at the cost above
What Freezing Actually Does to Bread
What Freezing Breaks
Water expands as it freezes. Inside a loaf it forms crystals that push through the starch and gluten holding the crumb together, and thawing does not put that structure back.
The Clock Speeds Up
Freezing pauses staling rather than stopping it. On the way back up through fridge temperatures the starch recrystallises quickly, so a thawed loaf can firm up faster than one never frozen.
Where Wax Fits
Wax on cotton does not touch staling — nothing on a worktop does. What it controls is the moisture leaving and entering the loaf, the part that turns a good crust soggy or a soft crumb to brick.
"Will This Work in a Humid Kitchen?"
Great question — here’s the honest answer
Here’s Why It Works
In a humid kitchen the thing that ruins bread is water with nowhere to go. Warm damp air condenses on the crust, the surface stays wet, and that wet surface is where mould starts. A plastic bag or an airtight box makes it worse, because it seals that damp air in against the loaf and holds it there.
Waxed cotton does the opposite of sealing. The weave lets vapour move out while the wax slows the exchange down, so moisture is not held against the crust. That is the whole mechanism, and it is why this method survived in climates that are anything but dry.
Vapour Can Leave
Damp air moves through the weave instead of condensing and sitting on the crust
Nothing Gets Sealed In
No bag, no lid, no warm wet pocket trapped against the loaf for days
What It Won’t Do
In a genuinely humid room nothing on a worktop gives bread a long life. Keep it somewhere cool and airy and expect days, not weeks
Plastic in Humid Weather
- Seals the damp in — warm wet air has nowhere to go
- Condensation on the crust — the surface stays wet, and wet is where mould starts
- A warm room speeds it up — in a humid kitchen you are counting days
- No airflow at all — nothing on the loaf gets a chance to dry off
Waxed Cotton in Humid Weather
- Vapour keeps moving — the weave lets damp air out instead of holding it in
- Crust stays dry to the touch — no film of water sitting on the surface
- Air still reaches the loaf — the opposite of a sealed bag or a lidded box
- Still a worktop, not a miracle — humid room, cool airy spot, and expect days rather than weeks
“Living in Florida, the humidity is no joke. My sourdough used to grow mold within just two days of sitting on the counter. Ever since I started using this bag, my bread stays fresh for 5–6 days. It's been an absolute game-changer!”

Why Our Stock Is Always Limited
Hand-waxed in small batches
This started as one person binning half a loaf every week and getting fed up with it. It is still a small operation, and every bag is waxed by hand.
Waxing is the slow part. The cloth is coated, cured and checked one at a time, and that is what caps the size of a batch — not how many we could sell. A run takes as long as it takes.
We will not switch to a sprayed-on finish or a cotton-polyester blend to make that number bigger. Those are the two shortcuts that make a bag cheap to produce and useless by month three, and taking them would remove the only reason to buy this one.
So when a batch is spoken for, it is gone and the next one opens. There is no hidden warehouse. If you are reading a sold-out date above, that date is real.
We would rather you wait a fortnight for one that was made properly than receive one that was rushed to meet a number.
Why We Only Use Real Beeswax
- Nothing synthetic touches your food — cotton and wax, with no polyurethane, PVC or TPU coating in the mix
- No taste carried over — there is a faint honey scent for the first week or two, and it does not transfer to the loaf
- It biodegrades — at the end of its life the cloth composts and the wax goes back to the ground, unlike a coated bag
- Food-grade wax, and only that — nothing is added to it and nothing is sprayed over the top to make it look glossier
- It wears out, and we say so — wax is a consumable, which is exactly why we sell the bar to redo it instead of claiming the bag is forever
If you are buying this for a house with small children in it, the thing worth knowing is short: there is no coating. Nothing has been applied to the cloth except wax, so there is nothing on it that could migrate into bread.
That is the whole specification. If you want to see it, cut a corner off and look — the wax goes through the weave, it is not a film on the surface.
